Cheers to you to John. In 17 more months I will be enjoying the benefits of medicare. Or, will I? What do you think? Will the price of my meds be so high that they will swallow my entire social security check?

Agreeing with the "Goodman law" I can't help but wonder if the stronger underlying cause of this reduction of drug price inflation might be more a result of a lack of new important drugs [high cost] that have no equivalent generic or other branded competitor and that is resulting in the reduction of drug price inflation.

Certainly a person spending his/her own dollars would be much more vigilant than a person spending Other People's Money. But for hospital care, where the big bucks are, nobody but the rich (or the indigent) can afford to be uninsured. Have insurance companies ever experimented with rebates to reward consumers whose heart surgery, for instance, comes in under the average cost?

Your dream was exactly what I was referring to when I saw you last week. If we can take responsibility for our own silos, and not operate in a vacuum, we can accomplish great things, using the free market and the backbone of the system.
