Friday's New York Times crossword puzzle was so horrendous I couldn't finish it. And although Saturday's was easy (20 minutes max), it left me in a bad mood for the whole weekend.
My funk was compounded by a question asked by the National Journal to about three dozen of the country's top health policy gurus. Should we worry about the Medicare Trust Fund? Most didn't answer, and of the handful that did by the weekend, only two of us seemed to be aware that the Medicare Trust Fund is run the same way Bernie Madoff ran his Ponzi scheme. AARP (AARP? Yes, AARP), the Commonwealth Fund and the Kaiser Foundation all seem to think that the trust fund can pay benefits, even though its only assets are IOUs the government has written to itself. (Tell me again why Madoff is going to prison?)
Anyway, here is a little Dolly Parton pickup to start off the day.
How could we be wrong?

Thanks for the pickup, John. Great song.

Agree with you on Friday’s crossword puzzle. Even Rex Parker called it “challenging.”
